- For both of these compositions I chose Gill Sans because I needed a typeface that had no serifs. I did two variations on the same idea. That idea is basically all the stuff that I have to do in one day clouded into one big mess. I thought I would then show how the day gets better or more simplified through Bikram yoga. The first example I thought leaves falling down would be interesting since the pose illustrated is called Tree Pose. I think i definitely need more words floating down if I were to use the leaves. Basically I am thinking that i should combine the two ideas of both pictures? And is she too simple? Should there be more detail? All criticism greatly appreciated :) (and little floater on top right of second composition will not exist in final comp ;)

2nd one!
ReplyDeleteReally like the choice to put in ground, helps anchor the figure.
The composition for the two are very great, they have a lot going on and there seems to be a lot of dept visually. The images don’t seem to be very flat; they have a lot of moment going on between them. As for the words flowing to the side, maybe if in the first one put the words inside the leaves such as the veins, or make the words out in leaves or maybe just use plain glyphs like you have and no words. I love the structure of your body, especially the head and the hair. You can visually see the bun in the hair. The Gill Sans is a good idea for it gives it a clean look. As for the body, she doesn’t look to plain, but maybe you should clean it up some how such as the big letters with it. As for the bottom image I think that could be stronger than the first with the leaves from the top one. Did you think about making the words on bottom into a yoga mat? I like your bolder words in your cloud on top and lighter ones towards your face, make that more apparent. I would suggest work more on the bottom one.
ReplyDeleteI think that both of your roughs are very good, I understood the concept immediately. I think different elements from both of your roughs combined could make a very strong one. I like the leaves from the first one you should definitely use them and incorporate the “no worries” from the second composition. I don’t think that your character is too simple I thought it was very clever that I could still recognize some of the letter that she is made from. I really like that you have a ground plane on the second composition, but it is hard to read, it looks like you have it mirrored? I don’t like that the second and third lines are touching and overlapping in places, it’s just frustrating that I can’t read it or really understand what is said there because it seems interesting and related to your yoga theme. Also on the bottom left underneath the word focus, between the two lines there is something written that I can’t read, perhaps when it is printed out and larger you will be able to though?
ReplyDeleteThe choice of the Gil Sans font was a good one. Even though there is a lot of overlapping text it is still legible. Although, there were a couple occasions in the top left where some of the overlapping text gets difficult to read. You might want to change that. You did a great job with the body displaying detail such as the hair, but it is also simple and does not display a lot of text. I wouldn’t change it at all, if it wasn’t simple it might take away from the surrounding text. I would keep the leaves in the first one and get rid of the text on the bottom of the second one. In place of the text on the bottom, since you are talking about Bikram yoga, I would use the text to create a yoga mat. Overall, you did a really nice job and have a great composition.
