Grid System

Here is the basic grid system over an ad done by the Shigaya-Gumi Tokyo, Japan agency in 2008.

Nick Rudock: Bert Monroy photorealist digital artist

Bert Monroy is a photorealist digital artist. He considered one of the pioneers of digital art. He has published several books and is an accomplished lecturer.

He considers himself to be a Hyper-realist artist. His medium is actual light and this can be seen by the ultra realism in his work. The light and use of shadow create realism that is not matched by any other digital artist.
When he discovered the first Macintosh 128 in 1984 he began his digital career. He was the founding pioneer of the New York firm Incredible Interactivity and was responsible for multimedia presentations as early as 1986. His work has been used to introduce numerous software projects such as Phostoshop, VideoWorks, PixelPaint, and ImageStudio.

I have chose to show a couple of his works. I chose these do to the ultra realism he creates by his use of light and shadow. They are truly magnificent and have to be looked at closely to truly appreciate them. They look real!

Also here is a interview clip in which Monroy gives a tutorial on how to create metal text layers.

Blog Assignment Week 7 & 8

BLOG ASSIGNMENT Week 7 & 8:
The last few weeks we've been discussing the use of different grid systems (axial, radial, dilatational, random, grid, modular, transitional and bilateral) as a starting point for laying out compositions.

Included in your post assignment: An example of one of these grid structures. Include the Designer name/Company and year. You will post up two images. The original image AND the image with an overlay demonstrating the grid structure. Refer to the Kimberly Elam book "Typographic Systems". You can create the overlay image by lowering the original opacity in Photoshop and drawing a colored layer on top pointing out the grid structure. Remember to save it as a jpg when finished.

Add the labels "grids" & "class time". Remember to add a comma between the words. If the labels are not present you will not receive credit. The labels are meant for organization. If post are not labeled they will get lost in the blog. Therefore...no labels...no grade!! To double check your labeling you should be able to find your post when you select the "class time" on the right and when you select "grid". If it doesn't show up you did it wrong.
