Quiroga - Tahoma

Hi There,
My name is Krista Quiroga. I'm originally from a suburb, just outside of New Orleans. I lived there for 18 years before moving to New York to attend Manhattanville College. The school didn't seem like a good fit for me, so I transferred to UT after a year. I then spent 3 semesters at UT trying to find a major. Still undecided as a junior, I thought it would be best to take a year off. In January of this year, I enrolled at Texas State, majoring in Com Des, and I've been happy as a clam ever since (P.S. where did that phrase even come from?).

As a joke, I put my last name in Old English (all caps) on the back of my car. It's in gold to match my tan/gold '05 Malibu Classic. For my favorite typeface, I chose Tahoma because its a sans-serif, and I've always liked it. I'm still pretty new to type, so my favorite typeface could still change.

Barron--Rockwell

Hi, my name is Travis Barron and this is my fourth semester at Texas State! I've been into art and design since I can remember and I also enjoy playing music and teaching myself new instruments.
Though there are many typefaces that i love, Rockwell has got to be my favorite. It is excellent at grabbing the viewers' attention because of its bold angles. I really like how all of the lines in each of the letters are almost exactly the same width and how everything is based on simple geometric shapes. The only downside i guess is that you can't really use this font for a large amount of text, but as a display font this typeface is awesome!

Kopecki -- Berlin Sans Regular

Hi! I'm Genevieve Kopecki, but I also go by Genna. I'm a junior advertising major with a minor in comm. des. I'm from a small town called Karnes City. There's not much to do there, so it's nice to be in San Marcos where there is always something to do. I like wakeboarding, running and taking pictures.
I never really thought of what my favorite font is until now. I chose Berlin Sans because its bold and crisp. It just seemed to stand out to me.

Price- Baskerville

My name is Kristen Price, I am a Com Des junior. This is my third semester at TX State. I am returning to school after a 6yr break. I work for MAC cosmetics and I love doing makeup. However I wish to move away from the retail end and focus on the Ads for makeup collections. I grew up in North Austin, and now Live in South Austin. In addition to makeup I love Movies and Music.

I chose Baskerville because I think it looks nice. I don't know anything about typeface and am really excited to learn

Martinez- Arial Black

Hi, my name is Adrian Martinez. I'm from New Braunfels, TX. I transferred from San Antonio college last year and this will be my third semester/senior year here at TX. State. My hobbies include drawing, playing guitar (simple songs), riding my dirt-bike, hunting, fishing, camping, tubing and other outdoor activities. I decided to major in Com.Des. after talking to the advisers here last year about applying my drawing skills/artistic creativity to a major that involves computer graphics because I know little of it and was interested in how myself and other artists applied similar skills to a computer . So I chose computer graphics. I figured what I learned in Com. Des. could help me also help small businesses that my relatives own to expand was a bonus in applying my art skills somehow to advertise their businesses by making flyers, business cards, etc.

I never had a favorite typeface but I chose Arial Black because its bold and crisp and easier to read, for me at least. Most other bold fonts just don't seem to have this affect because they're thinner in some areas making the thinner areas hard to read sometimes, especially when there is a bright white back ground which swallows the thinner font areas and font types which tends to tire the eyes faster. So, just for ease of reading I chose Arial Black.

Davis-Trajan Pro

My name is Seth Davis and I'm a senior Com Des student. I was born and raised in South Austin, went to high school in southwest Austin, attended UTSA for a year, transferred to ACC for a year, and then TXST. Now that I'm going on my second year here, I'm pretty pumped to see how I can become a better artist. I currently work at the University Star doing page layout design.

I chose Trajan Pro simply because its a very structured and powerful looking font. Every time I look at it, I get a sense of strength and durability. The artist really made it feel as if it came straight from the Roman time period, which is why I like it...I'm not the biggest fan of serif fonts but this one definitely catches my eye.

Sandoval-Gill Sans Light

My name is David Sandoval, and I'm in ComDes. I'm a Junior and I've only recently gotten into the whole "scene," I guess. Used to go to Baylor, but it got costly. Now I live in Austin and pretty much love it since it's tons more awesome than San Marcos (and undoubtedly better than Waco). True story: I once went to Torchy's Tacos and had to barricade my food from birds. Don't see that in San Marcos (every meal in Waco). I hope to graduate on time, but I'm not so sure. Packed summers are in my future.
Anyway, I chose Gill Sans Light cause it's basically the classiest font out there. Its easy curves, basic design, and ability to hold color well make it great from album covers to kid's lunch boxes, assuming you have a cool kid. I don't.

Suniga- Helvetica

Hi, my name is Kristina Suniga, this is my third year at Texas State, I'm a returning junior and Comm Des major. Born and raised in San Antonio, I have always had a love for art in any form, so much that during my break from school, my partner and I started a small cake business, where I became the main cake decorator. It has taught me tons about working with different art mediums.
I really don't have a favorite font, but if I had to pick one I guess it would be Helvetica, not sure why. I do know I prefer fonts that are more clean and crisp, to those with all the frills.

king-ravie

My name is Heather King and I like ravie because it is like comic but with a slightly less slapstick feel. I live in Pflugerville Tx, and take the bus to come to school. Not so much fun. Hopefully I will graduate in two more semesters and get on with a semi-charmed life.

Ordaz-Bookman Old style

Veronica Ordaz. This is my second semester here at TXSTATE. I transferred from the graphics program at UofH last semester. Born and raised in Houston so I'm kinda getting used to living in this part of Texas. I currently live in south Austin. I really can't think of anything interesting about myself at the moment.
I chose BOS because the word book is in there and I like to read books. I also haven't really thought about a favorite font. Don't judge me. For me Fonts are kinda like colors..... and that's my point.

Morgan - Futura Book

Hi, I'm Leigh Morgan. I'm a senior journalism major and communication design minor, planning to graduate in May. I've always been interested in writing and designing for a magazine, but after an internship with Texas Monthly this summer, I'm starting to question that whole idea. I'll be interning for a PR firm and an advertising company over the next six months and look forward to figuring out what I want to do when I grow up, and how graphic design will play a role in it.

I chose futura book for my font because it is my "default" choice. I've used it in every publication I've ever created and I like that is clean, simple and not times new roman.

Boothby, Helvetica

My Name is Laura Boothby. I'm a senior this year and majoring in Communication Design and Art history with a minor in mass communications. I just picked up the other major and minor so I'll brobably graduate in a couple of years.
My Favorite font used to be ones that had a loopy look to them, but over the years I have come to favor Helvetica because of how much it can be used for. It is great for adds because its easily read and its simple which I like.

Garza - Haettenschweiler

I'm Eric Garza and I am really into movies and music. I'm an advertising major and an art & design minor. I feel that these two go hand-in-hand, as I would prefer to work in the design/graphic area of advertising. I work at KTSW, our campus radio station, as the music director and spend a lot of time listening to and reviewing music.

I chose Haettenschweiler font because, at the moment, it is a font that I enjoy. I like that it is based from of a metal-cast type. I like that it's simple, but refined. I like how clean it is, similar to 'Impact,' and that the tail of the 'R' has a slight curve to it, which is trivial, but something I enjoy. Like Camille, I'm sure I will have a new 'favorite' font by the end of this class, which is something I'm excited about.

Tyler - Arial Narrow

My name is Camille Tyler. I'm a senior Com Des major from Trinity, TX. I transferred about 2 years ago from Texas A&M where I was a Finance major, so I'll be in school for an extra year. I am a competitive water skier & captain of the Texas State Water Ski Team. I compete all over the country and against people from all over the world.

I chose Arial Narrow because of its efficiency. This typeface makes it easy to put more type in a given space without being so condensed that you can't read it. I like that even though it's a version of a common font, it looks much more sophisticated and interesting.

Megan James- Futura Std.

My name is Megan James and I'm from College Station. This is my senior year, but I will probably be around for three more semesters. I have always enjoyed art/design because I grew up in a house full of artists. My major is obviously ComDes and I am also a Strutter. (For those of you who don't know, that is the dance team here at Texas State.) :)

I had a difficult time trying to choose my favorite typeface but I chose Futura Std. I like Futura Std. because, in my opinion, it's always a safe and clean choice. It's lines are similar to Helvetica but there is just enough difference. It's clean but interesting. I'm sure after this class is over, my opinion will change completely about type and I will discover a new favorite.

~*~Gonzales~*~ Lucida Handwriting

Oh hey!

My name is Cassandra, but I go by Cassy. I'm originally from "The Valley" (South Texas), but I've been living in San Marcos for 2 years. My major is Advertising. I would like to work for Disney, Nike, or Runner's World Magazine. Yeah, I know those are some big names, but hey it could happen. Cooly Wooly! (And yeah I just made that word up. I tend to do that.)

Lucida Handwriting has a soft wave and has the appearance of being handwritten. I personally use it for inspirational quotes. I like how the letters connect to each other and the i's. The letters are not rigid and boring; they have a curve to them.

Sosa - Arial

My name is Stephen Sosa, I am going on my second year at Texas State, but I am a junior. My major is Communication Design. I have always enjoyed creating art my whole life. For as long as I can remember I have always taken some sort of art class, or created something outside of class when I wasn't able to take one. I work part time at HEB as a Bookkeeper in Austin. I enjoy hanging around Austin and always checking out new places.

I chose Arial as my favorite type because it is typically the one I use the most. To be honest I never really thought about what my favorite type is until recently. I really like Helvetica as well, although I understand that its a "safe" choice. You can't really go wrong with it. I hope after taking this class though I will learn about types that I have never considered, and that might change my opinion on my normal choice.

Parsons --- Goudy Old Style

My name is Jeremiah and this will be my 3rd semester at Texas State. I come from a town called Kerrville which is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. I first discovered that I like and am good at art via photography and it kind of developed from there leading me eventually to Texas State. I like being outdoors and am currently interested in learning to Salsa and participating in Swap-bot.com which is a place people can swap things with others in the US and internationally. Very cool and interesting, a surprise every time.

Ok how why I chose Goudy Old Style....I'd say that when I began doing some graphic design work for my current boss, a property developer in Kerrville, I used this font in a brochure I did for him because I thought it really gelled/looked good with the other components of the brochure. Ever since then it has been my favorite. I dont always use this any more but it gives me a starting point from which to diversify :)
