I've always thought this was a clever logo. I saw it for the first time when i was twelve or so and obsessed with skateboarding. DC is a skate shoe brand, and they've successfully created a semi-symmetrical design by using a "c" with semi serifs and a modified "d." Not quite sure what the star is for, perhaps the designer was unhappy with all that negative space inside the "c" and just threw it in there to make it nice and balanced. Whatever the reason, I think it's a handsome brand logo.

Boothby-Volkwagen

I choose the Volkswagen logo which combines/merges the two letterforms V and W together closed in by a circle. It was created in Germany during the 1930's For the automobile and to this day remains one of the more famous automobile logos out there. It was created by german engineer Franz Reimspiess, who also perfected the Beatles engine. The logo was the result of an office competition in which the employees were to design the new cars logo and with Franz creativity he meshed two letterforms together to create the logo. The logo may also be seen in not only blue but gray as well.

Simchick - Milwaukee Brewers

This logo if for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team. I've always had a strong liking for the logo and I think it does a great job combining the lowercase initials "m" and "b" to create the image of a baseball glove. It is easily identifiable; if you have never before seen the logo you can put two and two together and realize it is a symbol of the Brewers-- the glove shows it is a baseball team while the letters "m" and "b" abbreviate the team name.

The logo was the result of a contest that the Brewers held in 1977 inviting designers to create the new logo for the ball club. It was created by Tom Meindel who at the time was an Art History student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

PARSONS - Merging : RnR, CSC, D&P, AMRO

Greetings and Salutations All! I hope everyone is well. I am posting a few of the logos I've found that might fit the assignment typic.

First off is from a company called RnR who make Rifle Sights out of California.
This one has more history behind it. It stands for Computing Scale Company (1891-1914) which eventually merged with other companies eventually becoming what we know as IBM

This is just a personal project logo made for Phil and Donna for their wedding

AMRO Bank Logo which came into existence in 1964 came from the merger of the Dutch 'Amsterdamsche Bank' and the 'Rotterdamsche Bank'. The banks of the Netherlands' two biggest cities.
The name of the new bank and brand was a concatenation of the first two letters of both banks.

Blog Assignment #2: Merging letterforms

Blog Assignment #2: Merging Letterforms
In project three, OMG! Typographic Symbols, we are investigating the merging of letterforms to create a single object. This is a common practice for logos. For this blog assignment, find a logo/or other designed element that merges letters or parts of letters together. Make a note in your post what the element is for, who did it, etc.

Label as follows (place a COMMA between labels)
  • class time ---- ex. 8am or 11am
  • merging
Your post is due BEFORE next Thursday's Class (September 16th)
