The radial is working best for you. I would scale the ENTIRE thing down. It's a bit large and doesn't give you much negative space around the edges. Also, the date at the top is starting to flip backward. Try and make it completely vertical.
If you are trying to show a gradual compression with the letters in "madame butterfly", "puccini" and "theater" it's barely noticeable. Shrinking down the entire comp will give you room to space those out so that you can really see the compression as it reaches the center.
yeah I agree, i really got into messing around with the radial and liked the way it turned out, although oddly enough the other one took quite a bit longer. I will scale down the radial one, mess around with the kerning and make the text more vertical.
