With my first rough I was trying to express the idea that I was having a tough time coming up woth ideas. So it is suppose to be a brain fart. Trying to find an idea but nothing will come to mind. I used myriad pro as the type face because it made the image look more fun and playful like I wanted it to be. My second rough is someone drowing in all the things going on in life. I decided to do it because I was feeling overwhelmed with things to do at the time. I used baskerville italics because it seemed to exaggerate everything more.
I think that concept wise your first post is the strongest. If it were me that is the one I would go with. I do however think it needs a few tweaks, I see you are sort of playing with the right brain / left brain concept, I would push that angle big time. Another thing I think you could do improve that composition is to take the schedule aspect of the second one and plug it into the first, but organize the things you do on a daily basis into the right/left brain thing. Also I think you could illustrate a brain fart better if it were more cloud like, you might even use the word “fart” just to cue everyone in on the joke. Typeface wise I would like to see a little more variance in the text, maybe a bold font for your outlines and lighter ones for the folds of the brain, and even lighter for the fart element, maybe outlines for a gassy feel.
ReplyDeleteI love the first one. I immediately got “brain fart” without even reading your explanation. Very simple, very easy to read and the image of a brain is not confusing. Meaning, I can immediately tell it’s a brain. The second one, I did not see the person’s face right away. When I read that someone was drowning, it took me a while to find it. Maybe you could make the font slightly bolder and maybe have a hand coming up in front of her too. That space makes me feel like something needs to go there. A hand coming out and reaching would be interesting. It might be a little hard to get the fingers on the “type on a path” but maybe that would work. I say kudos on the brain fart because it works and I don’t think you need to change anything on it.
