Corey Pro3 roughs
So, I was on my way to school the other day and got soaked; so I decided to base my project
on that. The rain is supposed to be the mundane, and the negative thoughts through out the boring day. The feeling is that you see a bunch of type that is overwhelming and relatively homogeneous, yet there I am in the midst of it.I picked Futura type because, it's simple which is perfect for the rain yet playfully modern which is good for the figure and umbrella. In the first image I stay happy under my umbrella in my own little world despite the horrible day and in the second image I can't seem to escape bad things from happening although the world around me seems to be carrying on just fine. The second image isn't as developed because, I don't really see myself as so negative; all the contrary.

Well I like how you decided pretty easily what you were going to do your project on. To be perfectly frank I think the first image works a lot better than the second image. The second image to me is a little misleading because the rain is coming down on you and you are obviously unhappy, but yet there is a happy bird and a sun in the background. Also in the bottom one you have a typo in the bottom right; splash is spelled splash, which made me laugh a little. I do like the type you used in the first one, but I do not think it works as well in the second one. I would go with the first image for sure, in my opinion. I like the fact that the text gets bigger in some places and it really stands out and adds more visual interest to the viewer. Just check your spelling, but I think your doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteYour first rough is very busy and visually interesting due to all of the slanted type/rain and zigzagging lightening strikes. I like the fact that the rain is all running in the same direction because it makes the type easier to read. It might look interesting if some of the words or letters were bouncing off of the umbrella, showing even more of your resistance to the hectic rain. Adding a dark cloud or two could also add to the nasty weather. The lightening is a nice touch and is a good break in the repetition of the background. Futura is a clean, easy to read font. Another thought would be to make you/the person a little bigger since you're untouched by such weather conditions. Your second rough could have more hectic looking type inside of it or maybe more rain marks under the umbrella. The idea of having a bad day is portrayed very well with the rain under the umbrella, but I think your first rough has a more intense composition. Is the little guy laughing a ‘mocking’ bird? Ha ha…bad joke, but seriously, the bird is funny you should make him larger in your first rough. Good work!
