DESCRIPTION: Both of these represent the multitude and amalgam of thoughts that run through my head each day. It's meant to be silly and funny in a way hopefully offering a bit of a satire to the serious things to get done that I really don't want to do like school work and actually going to work and getting up in the mornings.
The head is made up of a bunch of random thoughts or things that run through my mind as well with random breaks in my 'thoughts' with the words BRAIN, HEAD, THOUGHTS or MIND.
The top one I used Gill Sans because I liked the boldness of the bold style and I felt that it was kind of a playful sort of font. The bottom one I used Helvetica Neu Std because it gave me a wide array of faces to play with.
I think I like the top one better just because I think it may be easier to read, but I still like a lot of the elements in the bottom one that I think could be added to the top one to make that one particularly better.
I enjoy your compositions but unfortunately for this project we are only allowed to use one font per each. So for both, the first thing I would changed is to use a font family that has many selections that way you can still have the variance that you want while still going along with what Newton’s guidelines. I like the ideas that are coming out of your “head” but I feel that something is missing from the composition overall. I might suggest changing the placement and size of a lot of the words. Go all out with it being messy and fun. The second composition I like less than the first because I feel like some of the words are so overpowering in size it takes away from the rest of the piece. For both I’d say: make the head larger, use one font family, if you do bold fonts do them a little bit smaller in size and add more to the overall composition.
Your concept is really interesting. I like the idea of thing coming out of the head, but I don’t see the head when I look at the composition. It gets lost with all the text. Maybe try to find a way to emphasize the head more, but still have the chaotic placement of the words.
As far as the words around the head, I think you should work a little more with the words and font. I like the Helvetica version better, but maybe try the same composition in the bottom with gill sans and then the top composition with Helvetica just to see what a difference it could make.
Your composition on the bottom is not as balanced as the one on top. I thing the bold text on the sides and top of the page unbalances it. If the head had more emphasis it could add more balance.
