Bundy Proj3 Roughs

A candle represents the short time in my day-to-day which I can relax. Some days are darker than others and that is shown by the color of each candles' background. I don't always have time to relax so when I do, it is intense, just as the text. This typeface has a calm feel about it and is all lowercase because there is nothing relaxing about capital letters. I wanted the candle, the flame, and nothing else; no smoke, no background, just the candle and it's flame. When I relax it's all about me and no other complications in the environment.

  1. I like the idea of creating an object out of letters like that. I also think the type face is appropriate in lower case and does give a sense of calm. It’s kind of tricky to decide which image I like better; probably the one with the black background. Maybe you could have the flame kind of dancing around a bit and flowing off to the side a little bit. Maybe you could also offset the candle a bit, so that’s it’s asymmetrical, because at the moment your eye kind of just ends up in the middle which isn’t too exciting. But, I like that you chose to do something that is not so obvious. Maybe in the black background you could add some words like “at last” or “a sigh of relief, my day is done”. Although the white background does suggest more peacefulness, so that one might be better. Maybe you could just add a little shadow in the white background. These are all just suggestions though; good job.

  2. First off I think these are very interesting pieces that create a great sense of depth and space. When I first looked at it I thought it was a coffee cup until I read your description and really looked at it. I wish I could zoom in more but the blog only lets me look at it in one size. It’s a little hard to read the words in the image. About the only word I could make out was the repeated flame at the top of the candle. I really like the black background, but I think the bottom one with the white background works a lot better. Over all this is a great composition and a really cool twist on the way to approach this project. I would really maybe like to see the words a little more visible but I understand with the way you have it set up, that it might not be easy to achieve this.
