Samples Project 3 Roughs

For the first rough I wanted to use humor to portray how I would like my day to be versus how it really is (I'd like to eat eggs and bacon every morning for breakfast, but in reality I usually just eat a pop-tart). I think that's something many people can relate to. I used the Light version of the font to show how I am somewhat ashamed of how my day really is. I used Goudy because I wanted a san-serif font and it had a nice contrast between the bold and the light versions.

For my second rough, I used a more graphic approach (as opposed to textual) to portray a robot short-circuiting. Oftentimes I feel like a robot programmed to go to school, go to work, go to school, go to work etc. At times it can be over-whelming and I feel like my head might just pop off! I used Futura because I felt like it went nicely with the robot theme.

  1. Both of your ideas are very relative to an average everyday art/ComDes student, which is really appealing. At first glance, I thought your first was a little dry, but after reading the description and getting into your schedule, the humor aspect definitely shows and works. The Goudy font family chosen is really effective in how you separated the lights and darks showing the seriousness in bold and the loftiness of the light font. I appreciate the simplicity with the repetition in the second composition. It “draws” the lines of the robot a lot cleaner then if you would’ve chose more words. As far as revisions go I only have two suggestions. First, I would maybe separate the leg and arms where they’re joined because the words get a little jumbled in the overlapping. The second are aesthetic additions, maybe adding some more buttons in the stomach area and sparks or something coming from the head? Other than that great work on both!

  2. Well Samples I love the humor in the first design it’s funny how you tell us what you really do as opposed to what you should do. I think it’s something we can all relate too. I always like all lowercase it gives the text a flowing feel. The only thing that could improve this design would be to make the words bigger and smaller. Like have “my day” and “homework” bigger and go off the page some. Also make some of the stuff in (……..) smaller. This could maybe give it more depth and might help with some negative and positive space. As for the second design, maybe make some of the detailed parts darker/bolder. To also give it depth. Maybe you could make one of the eyes pop out like the head is to give it more movement. These are both good ideas and designs. My fav is the first one.
