Green, Proj3 Roughs

For both of my roughs, I used the typeface "Myriad". I chose this font because it has a ton of interesting glyphs and also different styles. This will enable me to make many different shapes for the buildings, etc.

My first rough is a representation of a regular day during the week. I live in Austin and drive to San Marcos daily...I feel that I spend an awful lot of time in the car (thus the repetitiveness of the word "drive"). Contained within the buildings are the different activities that I do throughout the day in those places.

For my second rough, I took a totally different approach. I decided to display the different outlets for music that I use throughout the day. Along side are a few artists, playlists or locations where I listen to this music.

  1. On the first idea, I would suggest just picking one building and putting more detail on it. I think the concept is strong and your buildings now are good, now its just a matter of adding little bits and pieces of detail to take the buildings to be more about shape and form and the image of a building over it being type. The second concept is really strong as well, I think it would help to take all those words about music and make something musical some things could be: a radio tower with radio waves, and ipod, musical notes, sheet music, headphones. It would help to push this good concept to be the strongest it can be. All and all I think you’re on the right track you just need to start putting in the details. Your font choice on the second one is great, the first one looks good though you might want to play with some other fonts. Good Work

  2. Ms. Green! I really enjoyed your first rough. Right off the bat, I could tell your illustration was of Old Main and the buildings around it (what they’re called I have no clue.) Old Main, by itself, is such a recognizable building, I don’t think you need to add in the buildings. Perhaps you could make the hills a bit more 3d instead or make cute little trees=D. I have a lot of friends that commute from Austin and they absolutely HATE the drive. Using the word drive to build so many parts of your picture definitely shows how you are able to turn something negative into something positive.

As for your second project, I completely got it- right off the bat, I understood your love for music. I definitely think you can make it more effective by somehow adding in some sort of image in the background. Maybe you could add in either a heart outline, or doves, or music notes. OOOOH! Or a Boom BOX!!! That would be really cool! If either of these images were used to advertise barbecue sauce, I would DEFINITELY buy it ;D
